It was a busy evening. I had a meeting of the Search Committee at church at 7 PM. I’ll be making a contact call to one of the candidates tomorrow. I’m glad we are finally getting to do something other than talk to each other, as much fun as that can be.
I did get home in time to see the results show from Dancing with the Stars for week 5. It was a lot of fun, even without Jimmy Kimmel. Maybe more fun without him, actually.
The show opened with a recap, of course. Then we got to see Mel & Maks do an encore of their dance. It looked just as good the second time around.
Then the “event of the night” happened – Jennifer Lopez performed live. Truthfully, I don’t listen to her music, so I didn’t know what to expect. That girl puts on a show! She has so much energy, it made me jealous. And I think she dances better than most of the celebs. Very impressive. She performed a second number later accompanied by some of the professional dancers from the show. This number was also well done. I think this was one of the most enjoyable performances by any guest star on any result show from any season. I’m surprised I enjoyed it as much as I did. Live and learn.
There was also a performance by a dance ensemble and choreographer. They did “50’s” dance moves to very “un-50’s” music. I was not really impressed with this one. The choreographer is supposed to be putting together a “50’s” number for next week’s show – I hope it’s more true to era and form than this one was.
In between performances, we got to see more interviews and we found out that Marie is just fine. There was the typical melodrama as we found out who was safe. Both Jayne (& Tony) and Mark (& Kym) were in the bottom two. Mark and Kym were eliminated. While I respect Mark Cuban for his work ethic and his willingness to take a chance at something new, he really was not in the same league as the other celebs when it came to ballroom dancing. I did learn to like a man that I wasn’t sure I would like. I admire a person who can laugh at him/her self and be honest about their ability. I also noticed he made a point to shake hands with the judges and thank them, as well as thanking his fellow celebs. That’s the good businessman coming out, I think.
Next week the remaining couples will perform a dance that has been done in prior weeks that they, themselves have not done before. They will also perform in the group dance number. That’s usually interesting. I think my in-laws are coming for dinner next Tuesday night – they’ll probably leave before it gets too late, so I should get to watch week 6.
