Finally, after months of having our flights changed by as little as 2 minutes, we are getting of the ground later this morning.
We’re heading out to Colorado, a place loved by singer John Denver, so I thought the title appropriate. In fact, on our way through Aspen and Snowmass in a few days, we’ll stop at the John Denver Memorial Sanctuary and Windstar. His music touched my soul and I wouldn’t miss the opportunity to send some thanks for that to God.
Our flight leaves from Providence, RI later this morning. TF Green Airport is a traveler friendly airport – small, easy to get around and friendlier than some of the bigger airports. The first leg is a short hop to Cincinnati on a small plane. It should take less than 2 and a half hours. After a hour, we’ll board a bigger plane for the 3 hr flight to Denver. We’ve never been to the Denver airport, so that will be a new experience.
We’ll stay just outside Denver tonight – take a little time to start adjusting to time changes and altitude changes. Tomorrow morning, we’ll be off to Aspen and Snowmass early. The plan is to spend as much time as we want to in the area, then drive to Glenwood Springs, where we’ll be staying a few days.
While we’re in Glenwood Springs, we’ll meet a cousin I’ve never met before. Her grandfather and my grandfather were half brothers. The family was not close. We’ve both been researching family history and discovered each other on a message board. Truly one of the blessings of the internet.
We’ll also explore the area around Glenwood Springs for a couple of days before heading to Boulder. While in Boulder, we’ll explore the Rocky Mountain National Park and other sights in the area.
We’ll cap off our trip with opening night for the Colorado Avalanche. Nothing like some good hockey to round out a vacation. The Avs will be playing the Boston Bruins – connecting us back to home before we leave.
It should be a great vacation – cool weather, beautiful scenery, wildlife and hockey. Who could ask for more?
